Second Life, a virtual 3D world made by the Californian company Linden Lab, is one of the best examples for future Web 2.0 applications. Currently 3 million people are registered as virtual citizens on the web site www.secondlife.com.

With a mouse click they lead their lives in this virtual world. They work in offices, go shopping, take walks along the boulevards and even have their own currency at their disposal, the Linden dollar (270 Linden dollar = 1 US).

It is also worth mentioning that Linden Lab, the creators of this virtual environment, only set up the initial framework for the virtual world. Almost all the objects were created by Web 2.0 users themselves. With Second Life a new world has been created, which not only appeals to the user, but rather places him/her directly into a new virtual universe. Because the users are completely encased in this virtual world, companies have an optimal chance for the users to experience their products intensively.
